Before Your Procedure
Q) When will I know my appointment time?
A) You will receive a call from Rocky Mountain Laser and Surgery Center the day before your surgery.
Q) How long will I be at the surgery center?
A) You can expect to be at the surgery center for approximately 2 hours.
Q) What kind of anesthesia will I receive?
A) You will receive light sedation for your surgery. You will not be fully asleep. The sedation will be given via an IV. Your preop nurse will start an IV upon admission.
Q) Can I drive myself home from my surgery?
A) You cannot drive yourself home after surgery, because you are receiving sedation. You must have a responsible adult over the age of 18 drive you home.
Q) Can I take Med Ride or a similar transportation service home?
A) You may take Med Ride or a similar transportation service home after surgery. However, you must have a family member or friend ride in the Med Ride with you who is over the age of 18.
Q) What should I bring with me to my appointment?
A) Please bring your insurance card, photo ID, and a form of payment for any copayment due on the day of surgery.
Q) Can I eat and drink before my surgery?
A) You cannot have anything to eat or drink after midnight on the day of your surgery. The only exception is a sip of water to take your morning medications on the morning of your surgery.
Q) Can I take my medications before surgery?
A) You may not take any diabetic medications or any diuretic medications the day of your surgery. All other medications may be taken the morning of your surgery with a small sip of water. You may discuss this with the preop nurse who will call you prior to your appointment.
During Your Procedure
Q) What should I expect during my surgery?
A) You will be laying completely flat for the surgery. There will be a microscope with bright lights overhead. The surgeon will use a small device to hold your eye open. You will be monitored by the anesthesia provider for your comfort.
After Your Procedure
Q) What should I expect after my surgery?
A) You will be given postop instructions when you arrive. Some of the highlights of these instructions are:
- Do not rub your eye for one week
- Avoid strenuous activity for one week
- You should have a follow up appointment the day after your surgery
